Empower: FG Programs
A number of Federal government programmes meant to empower Nigerians. These include the Npower programme, SIP (Social investment programme), GEEP and National School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP). This article lists the available programmes you can apply to empower yourself and your community. You can also find out their eligibility criteria to find out if qualify for the programmes of your choice.
Empower Federal Government Programmes
N-SIP – Nigeria Social Investment Programme – This is the umbrella body that manages the majority of the Federal Government social empowerment programs. It looks to empower millions of Nigerians through several projects such as Npower, GEEP and others.
NPower – This includes NTeach, NAgro, NBuild, NTax, NKnowledge, NHealth. The Npower programme seeks to empower young Nigerians between the ages of 18-35. Empower Npower Participants will be posted to public organisations in their local government areas and according to their fields of stidy/expertise. They are to empower other Nigerians around them. Beneficiaries will receive a new tablet and a monthly stipend of N30,000 naira each month.
YouWIN – This programme supports young entreprenuers with sound business plans and ideas to bring their dreams to reality. It offers business management and technical training as well as consultancy and advice for budding business owners. Prospective candidates should have a post secondary qualification, be between 18 and 40 years of age and must not be employed by the Civil service. They must also be resident in Nigeria.
Micro Empowerment Schemes
GEEP – Government Enterprise and Employment Programme is a nationwide empowerment programme which involves the registration and support of market associations, women cooperatives, artisan groupss, trade associations and cooperatives. It equips them with micro level credit facilities to the tube of between N10,000 to N100,000 only, payable within six months of the loan being granted. However, you have a One month grace period.
National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) – This cuts across public primary and secondary schools around Nigeria. NHGSFP seeks to employ cooks and engage farmers to produce agricultural goods with a ready market guaranteed by the Federal government. It looks to be a cost effective school feeding programme using locally grown produce to feed pupils.
